​Learning and Teaching Goals

All phases of schooling at St Francis Xavier are informed through Brisbane Catholic Education's Learning and Teaching Framework, Queensland Catholic Schools and Curriculum, 2008 and The Alice Spring's (Mparntwe) Declaration (2019). The Alice Springs (Mparntwe - pronounced as 'M- ban-tua') Education Declaration, released in December 2019, that sets the national vision for education for all Australians and notes two goals:​

  1. The Australian education system promotes excellence and equity.
  2. All young Australians become:
    • Confident and creative individuals.
    • Successful lifelong learners.
    • Active and informed members of the community.

Curriculum design and delivery at St Francis Xavier is grounded in the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration and is mindful of the declaration's goals. In alignment with the declaration which promotes excellence and equity, we support students to achieve high standards and provide structures and adjusted strategies that provide equitable learning experiences.

The School Vision for Learning is intrinsically linked to these goals and is embedded in the School's Vision, Mission, Motto, Charism, Values and Pedagogical Practices.

This is achieved within a faith-driven learning environment in which we are committed to supporting students to become confident and creative individuals, successful lifelong learners and active and informed members of the community. 

Our learning environment is inspired by St Francis Xavier and the Mercy Charism in the Catherine McCauley tradition. Our values are Respect, Compassion and Hospitality that are embodied in our school motto 'Kids Who Care'. 


Learning & Teaching

At St Francis Xavier, our vision for learning is that all children will realise their full potential, and be successful, creative, and confident learners who are empowered to enrich our world.  

We are guided by the Australian Curriculum V9.0 and Brisbane Catholic Education Religious Education Curriculum. Teachers use the BCE Model of Pedagogy, Effective and Expected Practices and Visible Learning principles to develop assessment-capable learners and inspire a lifelong love of learning in our students.

  • Use their prior knowledge and senses.
  • Ask questions.
  • Work collaboratively.
  • Apply their new skills and knowledge to solve problems.

We challenge children to think critically about:
  • What they are learning.
  • Why they are learning it.
  • How they are progressing in their learning.
  • What they can do to improve.


Classroom teachers teach English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Science (HASS), Digital and Design Technologies, Health and Religious Education.

Specialist teachers teach Physical Education, The Arts (Drama, Dance, Music​, Media Arts and Visual Arts), Languages (Italian) and Library.


Co-curricular Opportunities

There are several co-curricular opportunities for students to engage in including:

  • Year 6 Leadership groups: Keeping Jesus Real, Social Justice, Environment 
  • Deadly Jarjums First Nations group
  • Tournament of Minds
  • Choirs (CHORC- 4-6) Junior Singers ( Years 2-3)
  • School camps
  • Tournament of the Minds
  • Various sporting activities
  • Crochet Club
  • Dance and cultural groups
  • Visual Arts Club
